Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003.
In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 16th, over 1600 COMMON
MERGANSERS, 16 BALD EAGLES, 5 GREAT BLUE HERONS, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and 40 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were
seen at Harlan County Reservoir.
In western Nebraska on the 15th in Scotts Bluff County, a EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVE was seen in Mitchell. South of Morrill on the 15th, 300
SNOW GEESE, 2 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS and 2 ROUGH- LEGGED HAWKS were seen. At
Kiowa WMA on the 15th, 16 BALD EAGLES were spotted.
In eastern Nebraska on the 13th in Douglas County, 6 TRUMPETER SWANS and
an adult GLAUCOUS GULL in basic plumage were still being seen at Carter
Lake located across from Eppley airport.
In Dixon County on the 17th, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was spotted 3 miles west
and 1/4 mile north of Wakefield. Also on the 17th, a PURPLE FINCH was
still being seen at the Wakefield school feeders.
In Fillmore and Clay Counties on the 15th, hundreds of HORNED LARKS and
LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen.
In Lancaster County on the 11th, a PRAIRIE FALCON was seen along Highway
34 just east of the Seward County line.
In Cass County on the 10th, 10 EURASIAN COLLARD-DOVES and a COOPER'S HAWK
were seen in Elmwood.
