Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, Feb. 28th, 2003.

In eastern Nebraska in Gage County on the 28th, 2 WHITE-WINGED DOVES
visited a feeder in Beatrice. The birds have been hanging around the
neighborhood for about 2 weeks. To make arrangements to see them, call

In Lancaster County on the 25th at Branched Oak Lake, a NORTHERN SHRIKE
was spotted in a field just west of the booth on the way to Lieber's
Point. A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen at the office feeders west of
Lieber's Point. Other birds seen there were 150 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 45
NORTHERN PINTAILS. Two SANDHILL CRANES, first seen at Branched Oak Lake
on the 18th, were last seen on the 22nd. At Conestoga Lake on the 25th,
35 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS and 14 REDHEADS were found in 2
small open areas. On the 25th, a FOX SPARROW was seen in a yard in Sprague.

On the 21st in Douglas County, an adult GLAUCOUS GULL in basic plumage
was still being seen at Carter Lake located across from Eppley airport.
Also on the 21st, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen east of Eppley Airport.

In Seward County on the 22nd at Twin Lakes SRA, 75 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE and 17 REDHEADS were found.

In Clay County on the 22nd, 350 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 15,000 SNOW
GEESE and 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were found at Harvard WPA.

In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 20th at the Highway 184
bridge, GREATER WHITE- FRONTED GEESE and ROSS'S GEESE were seen at Harlan
Reservoir, and a BUFFLEHEAD, a REDHEAD and CANVASBACK were seen at the Alma
sewage ponds.

In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County, a female PURPLE FINCH was
seen at a feeder in Scottsbluff.

In Iowa in Council Bluffs on the 23rd, a HERMIT THRUSH returned to a yard
northeast of Big Lake.
