Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, Mar. 11th, 2003.
In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 9th the following species
were found at Harlan Reservoir: 4 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 13 species of
waterfowl including very large numbers of SNOW GEESE, 20 HOODED
MERGANSERS and 3 RUDDY DUCKS. Also seen were 23 BALD EAGLES, 10 HERRING
GULLS and 3 THAYER'S GULLS.
In eastern Nebraska in Otoe County on the 9th, 18 immature BALD EAGLES
were seen leaving a roostnear the power plant east of Nebraska City.
In Douglas County on the 7th in Omaha, a MERLIN was seen along I-680 near
the Irvington exit and another was seen at the 72nd Street exit. Also on
the 7th, a MERLIN was spotted at 159th Avenue and Q St. in Omaha.
On the 10th in Sarpy County, 15 BALD EAGLES were seen east of Offutt Air
Force Base in the Catfish Lake area.
In York County on the 8th, 2 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were found in
Greenwood Cemetery in York.
In Fillmore County on the 8th, 5 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS were seen in the
Geneva Cemetery.
In Clay County on the 6th, 2 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were seen.
In western Nebraska in southeastern Sioux County on the 10th , 5 MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRDS were seen on Wind Springs Ranch.
In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 11th at Lake Manawa, 14 species of
waterfowl were found including 22 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 2 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS. Also seen were 22 BALD EAGLES and 18 RING-BILLED GULLS.
