Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Monday, Mar. 17th, 2003.

In central Nebraska in Harlan County on the 14th the following species
were found at Harlan Reservoir: 15 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 7
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, 15 species of ducks including NORTHERN
SHOVELERS, 2 GREATER SCAUP and about 200,000 COMMON MERGANSERS. Also seen
at Harlan were 20 BALD EAGLES, 40 AMERICAN COOTS and a THAYER'S GULL.

In Buffalo County on the 14th, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER
were seen at Rowe Sanctuary. Also seen in the Kearney Area by Rivers and
Wildlife Conference attendees were a million SNOW GEESE and 250,000
SANDHILL CRANES.

In eastern Nebraska in Johnson County on the 16th, an EASTERN PHOEBE, a
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and a CAROLINA WREN were found at the Osage WMA.

In Cass County on the 15th, 2 GREATER SCAUP were seen at Louisville SRA.

On the 16th in Sarpy County in Bellevue, a TURKEY VULTURE and a PILEATED
WOODPECKER were found in Fontenelle Forest. On the 17th at Fontenelle
Forest, a WOOD DUCK, a HOODED MERGANSER, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, a WINTER
WREN and a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER were seen. In Douglas County at
Cunningham Lake on the 16th, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 350 RING-BILLED
GULLS and 7 HERRING GULLS were found.

In Seward County on the 14th, thousands of SNOW GEESE, 2 ROSS'S GEESE and
an adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK were found at Twin Lakes WMA. In York County
on the 16th, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were spotted 2 miles northwest of Benedict.

In Clay County on the 14th, 260,000 SNOW GEESE were seen at Massie WPA.
In Fillmore County on the 16th, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE and a FOX SPARROW
were found in the Geneva Cemetery.

In Dixon County on the 17th, a FOX SPARROW was seen on a farm northwest
of Wakefield.

In Knox County on the 9th, 34 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS and 2 SHARP-TAILED
GROUSE were found on leks west of Winnetoon.

In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 15th, 9 HOODED
MERGANSERS and 200 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Winter's Creek Lake. Also
on the 15th, a CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in a Mitchell yard.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 15th at Lake Manawa, 11 AMERICAN
WOODCOCKS were seen displaying south of the southeast parking lot.
