Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, Apr. 1st, 2003.

In eastern Nebraska on the 1st in Sarpy County in Bellevue, a GREAT
EGRET, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK, a PILEATED WOODPECKER and a WINTER WREN were
seen on North Stream Trail in Fontenelle Forest and a SWAMP SPARROW, 3
FOX SPARROWS and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen on South Stream Trail. On
the 29th, a HERMIT THRUSH was still coming to a birdbath on Bellevue
Boulevard. In northwest Sarpy County on the 31st, a SAY'S PHOEBE was
seen on the north side of the dam at Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Also
seen there were 2 HORNED GREBES and 2 FOX SPARROWS. On the 30th, a FIELD
SPARROW was spotted at Chalco Hills.

In Saunders County on the 30th, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a EURASIAN
COLLARED-DOVE were seen at Memphis Lakes SRA.

In Stanton County on the 30th, a VESPER SPARROW and a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE
were found at Wood Duck SRA.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 30th, 2 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS
were seen at Massie WPA in Clay County; 32 ROSS'S GEESE were found at
Pintail WMA in Hamilton County and a BREWER'S BLACKBIRD was seen at a
feedlot near Kissinger WMA. Other birds found in the eastern Rainwater
Basin on the 30th were: 11 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 20 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 8
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS and SAVANNAH SPARROWS.

In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 30th, a NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD was seen in Melbeta. On the 1st, a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen
northeast of Scottsbluff north of County Rd. J about a half mile east of
Sugar Factory Rd. On the 29th, a PYGMY NUTHATCH and a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD
were seen at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center.

In McPherson County on the 1st, 30 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were seen. Also
on the 1st, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was spotted northwest of Stapleton, and a
TRUMPETER SWAN was seen at Diamond Bar Lake.

In Lincoln County on the 30th, a kettle of 6 SWAINSON'S HAWKS was seen.

In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 30th, a FIELD SPARROW was
seen 2 miles east of Gibbon I-80 exit.

In Kearney County on the 29th, 4 GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKENS were spotted
near Gleason WPA.
