Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, May 2nd, 2003.

In central Nebraska in Kearney County on the 1st at Prairie Dog WPA, 5
WHITE-FACED IBIS, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK and 2 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS were seen.
Also on the 1st at Gleason WPA, 4 AMERICAN BITTERNS and a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON were found. In Hall County on the 30th, 1200 YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS were seen just north of the Wood River I-80 exit.

In Phelps County on the 1st at Sacramento Wilcox WMA, an UPLAND
SANDPIPER, 12 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 200 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 18 SPOTTED
TOWHEES were found. Also on the 1st, 2 BOBOLINKS were spotted near the
town of Wilcox. At Funk Lagoon on April 30th, a CLARK'S GREBE, a SNOWY
EGRET, a FERRUGINOUS HAWK, 2 SANDHILL CRANES, 26 AMERICAN AVOCETS, a
MARBLED GODWIT, 2 STILT SANDPIPERS and 10 WESTERN SANDPIPERS were seen.

In Furnas County, a HOODED WARBLER visited a yard in Wilsonville on April
23rd and 24th.

In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on the 2nd west of Bellevue off of
Cornhusker Road the following species were found: 2 OSPREYS, 3
BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, a NASHVILLE WARBLER, 2
BLACK-and-WHITE WARBLERS, and an AMERICAN REDSTART. On the 30thin Bellevue
the following birds were seen in Fontenelle Forest: an AMERICAN BITTERN,
3 BLACK- CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, a LEAST FLYCATCHER, 2 MARSH WRENS, a
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, a WOOD THRUSH, 2 PALM WARBLERS and a BALTIMORE ORIOLE.

In Washington County on the 30th, 17 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were seen at
Boyer Chute NWR. On the 26th at DeSoto NWR, a BROAD-WINGED HAWK, a SORA,
a WILLET, an INDIGO BUNTING and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were found. In
Douglas County on the 30th in Omaha, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO and a BALTIMORE
ORIOLE were seen at Towl Park. On the 1st, 4 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were
found in Dodge Park in Omaha, and on the 30th, a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO was
seen there.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 27th, 19 species of shorebirds were
found including an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 8 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW (Sandpiper WMA, Clay County), and 7
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS.

In Lancaster County on the 2nd south of Denton, 8 SEDGE WRENS and an
ORCHARD ORIOLE were seen at Spring Creek Prairie. On the 30th at
Stagecoach Lake, a PIPING PLOVER, 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and 21 AMERICAN
AVOCETS were seen. On the 30th at Wildwood SRA, an EARED GREBE, a YELLOW
WARBLER, an OVENBIRD and a BOBOLINK were found. On the 28th at Branched
Oak Lake, 3 COMMON LOONS, 34 AMERICAN AVOCETS, 3 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 9
FORSTER'S TERNS, a WESTERN KINGBIRD and an EASTERN KINGBIRD were seen.

In western Nebraska in Lincoln County on the 1st, 40 WHITE-FACED IBIS
were found north of the North Platte Airport. On the 30th, a
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen in Lincoln County.

In Cheyenne County on the 1st, a VEERY was seen in a yard in Sydney. In
Scotts Bluff County on the 28th, a LAZULI BUNTING was seen in a yard in
Mitchell.

In Sioux County on the 29th, LARK BUNTINGS were seen on Wind Springs
Ranch. In Sheridan County on the 1st, 4 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were seen
along Highway 250 just north of Lakeside. On the 28th, at Walgren Lake,
a CLARK'S GREBE was found.
