Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, May 14, 2003.
In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 11th, a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER
was seen in a yard two miles east of the I-80 Gibbon Exit.
On the 11th in Harlan County, a LARK BUNTING was seen and at Harlan
Reservoir, a WESTERN GREBE and an OSPREY were found.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on the 11th in Bellevue, a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and a BLUE GROSBEAK were seen at Swanson Park off of
Cornhusker Highway. On the 10th in Fontenelle Forest, a WORM-EATING
WARBLER and a MAGNOLIA WARBLER were seen along the Wetlands boardwalk. On
the 13th in Fontenelle Forest, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, an EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEE, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, a MAGNOLIA
WARBLER, a MOURNING WARBLER and a SUMMER TANAGER were found. On the 14th
in Fontenelle Forest on the uplands boardwalk a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and a
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER were found.
In Douglas County on the 13th, a CERULEAN WARBLER was seen again at the
north end of Hummel Park. On the 11th at Highway 36 and 168th St.,16
species of shorebirds were seen at Abomination marsh including a
HUDSONIAN GODWIT, a SANDERLING, a DUNLIN and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.
In Washington County on the 12th at Neale Woods, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, a
WOOD THRUSH and a KENTUCKY WARBLER were seen on the Krimlofski Tract and on
the 13th, a SCARLET TANAGER was seen there. On the 10th, a LAZULI
BUNTING visited a feeder north of Elk City.
In Madison County on the 10th, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO and a CAPE MAY WARBLER
were found in Norfolk in the old Lutheran Cemetery on Maple Street. On
the 11th, a BROAD-WINGED HAWK and a PEREGRINE FALCON were seen at the cemetery.
In Dixon County on the 13th, a BLUE GROSBEAK was seen near Wakefield.
In Seward County on the 10th north of Utica, 109 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS,
3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS and 312 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen in a field
north of North Lake Basin.
Elsewhere in the eastern Rainwater Basin, a WHITE-FACED IBIS, 4
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 4 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 54 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS were found on the 10th.
In western Nebraska in Scotts Bluff County on the 12th, a YELLOW-BREASTED
CHAT and a BREWER'S SPARROW were found in the Gering Cemetery and on the
11th, a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was seen there. On the 10th at Lake Minatare
22 AMERICAN AVOCETS and 3 MARBLED GODWITS were seen and at Winter's Creek
Lake a CINNAMON TEAL, a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE
were found.
In south Sioux County on the 13th, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and a WESTERN
TANAGER were seen.
In Cheyenne County on the 13th, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and a WESTERN
TANAGER were found in Sydney.
In Kimball County on the 11th, 18 EARED GREBES, a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER,
a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK and 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were seen at Oliver Reservoir.
