Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Thursday, May 15, 2003.

In central Nebraska in Buffalo County on the 15th, a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER
was still being seen 2 miles east of the Gibbon I-80 exit. A
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK is also present at this location.

In eastern Nebraska in York County on the 15th, 2 YELLOW-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS, 5 DUNLIN, 10 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 200 BLACK TERNS were
found at Recharge Lake just west of York. On the 14th, a MARBLED GODWIT
was seen at Waco WMA. In Clay County on the 14th, 2 SNOWY PLOVERS were
found at Harvard WPA.

In Lancaster County on the 14th, a LAZULI BUNTING visited a yard 10 miles
south of Lincoln. South of Denton on the 14th, 5 GREATER
PRAIRIE-CHICKENS were seen in a field just west of Spring Creek Prairie.
On the 13th, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen at Spring Creek Prairie. On
the 13th at Conestoga Lake, 2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 300 WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, 240 STILT SANDPIPERS and a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER were found. On
the 10th at Wilderness Park in Lincoln, a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER was seen
at the Pioneers Blvd. site.

In Richardson County on the 14th at Indian Cave State Park an ACADIAN
FLYCATCHER and 2 MOURNING WARBLERS were seen and on the 13th, a PILEATED
WOODPECKER, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, a CERULEAN WARBLER, 2 PROTHONOTARY
WARBLERS and 18 SUMMER TANAGERS were found there.

In Cass County on the 14th at Platte River State Park, a WOOD THRUSH, an
OVENBIRD, a KENTUCKY WARBLER, a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, 6 BOBOLINKS and a
SCARLET TANAGER were seen.

In Dixon County on the 14th, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 5 STILT SANDPIPERS and 4
BLACK TERNS were found at a pond 3 miles north and 3/4 mile east of Wakefield.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 15th at Lake McConaughy the
following species were seen: a SANDHILL CRANE, 34 PIPING PLOVERS, 10
WHIMBRELS, 2 RED KNOTS and 372 SANDERLINGS. At Lake Ogallala a male TUFTED
DUCK and 2 CINNAMON TEAL were found on the 15th. On the 14th a GREATER
SCAUP and a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER were seen at Lake Ogallala.

In Sioux County on the 12th, LARK BUNTINGS, a BREWER'S SPARROW and a
MCCOWN'S LONGSPUR were seen on the Henry Road. Also on the 12th, a
WESTERN TANAGER was seen in Harrison.
