Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, May 21, 2003.
In eastern Nebraska in Washington County at Neale Woods on the 20th, the
following species were found on the Krimlofski Tract: a MAGNOLIA WARBLER,
a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, 2 MOURNING WARBLERS, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS and a
BLUE GROSBEAK. On the 16th, a BELL'S VIREO and a BLUE GROSBEAK were found
at Nathan's Lake. In Douglas County on the 20th at Highway 36 and 168th
St., 11 species of shorebirds were seen at Abomination Marsh including 7
DUNLIN and 3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS. On the 16th, 2 CERULEAN WARBLERS
were seen at the north end of Hummel Park.
In Dodge County on the 20th in Fremont at Hormel Park, a PHILADELPHIA
VIREO and 13 species of warblers were seen including CHESTNUT-SIDED,
MAGNOLIA, BLACKBURNIAN, PROTHONOTARY, MOURNING and WILSON'S.
In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 17th and 18th, 11 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, 110 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS, 16 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, a RUDDY
TURNSTONE, 6 DUNLIN and 391 BUFF- BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found. A
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was spotted in Fillmore County near Ohiowa.
In Lancaster County on the 17th, 2 loons first seen at Holmes Lake in
Lincoln on the 11th, were identified as RED-THROATED LOONS. On the 16th
at Wilderness Park in Lincoln, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO, a BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER and a WILSON'S WARBLER were seen. At Cracker Barrel Marsh on north
27th St. on the 16th, 2 WHITE-FACED IBIS and 5 MARSH WRENS were found. In
York County on the 20th, 5 AMERICAN AVOCETS were seen at Waco WPA.
In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 16th at Lake McConaughy, 3
SNOWY PLOVERS, a WHIMBREL, a RUDDY TURNSTONE, 42 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and
an adult ARCTIC TERN (at Sandy Beach) were seen. On the 19th, an ARCTIC
TERN was found at Lake Ogallala. On the 16th, the male TUFTED DUCK was
seen again at Lake Ogallala.
In Dawes County on the 20th, a WHIMBREL was spotted at Box Butte
Reservoir. Also on the 20th at Ponderosa WMA, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a
LAZULI BUNTING were found.
In Scotts Bluff County on the 19th, a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE and a BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAK were seen in a Mitchell yard. On the 17th, a CINNAMON TEAL, a
PIPING PLOVER and a WHIMBREL were seen at Lake Minatare. Also on the 17th,
a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was found in Carter Canyon. In Sioux County on the
16th, the CURVE-BILLED THRASHER was still being seen on the Frimann
Ranch. In Morrill County on the 17th, a SAY'S PHOEBE and MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRDS were seen near Courthouse Rock.
In Kimball County on the 17th, 4 PLUMBEOUS VIREOS, a VEERY , a
MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER and 5 WESTERN TANAGERS were found at Oliver
Reservoir. Also on the 17th, 3 MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were seen in Kimball
County. In Cheyenne County on the 18th, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were
seen at the north end of the pond in the Sydney city park.
In central Nebraska in Buffalo County the LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was last
seen on the 16th. In Phelps County on the 17th, 2 WHITE-FACED IBIS, a
RUDDY TURNSTONE and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen at Funk Lagoon.
In Harlan County on the 17th, 2 WESTERN GREBES, a WHIMBREL and a COMMON
TERN were found at Harlan Reservoir.
