Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Wednesday, June 18, 2003.

In eastern Nebraska in Clay County on the 14th, a YELLOW-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON was seen at Moger WPA southeast of Clay Center. Other
species found in the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 14thwere: 4 AMERICAN
BITTERNS, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 7 CATTLE EGRETS, 3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS,
15 REDHEADS, 18 RUDDY DUCKS, 7 HOODED MERGANSERS, a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 6
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 34 FRANKLIN'S GULLS, 2
SEDGE WRENS and 54 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES.

In Lancaster County on the 13th, 3 BELL'S VIREOS, 3 HENSLOW'S SPARROWS and
9 BOBOLINKS were seen at Spring Creek Prairie south of Denton. On the
12th, a CHUCK-WILL'S WIDOW was reported singing at 198th and Van Dorn east
of Lincoln.

In western Nebraska in Keith County on the 15th at Lake McConaughy 5
SNOWY PLOVERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 5 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 158 FRANKLIN'S GULLS, 8 CALIFORNIA GULLS and a
LEAST TERN were found. On the 12th on Lake Ogallala, 33 WESTERN GREBES,
3 CLARK'S GREBES, a COMMON GOLDENEYE and 3 COMMON MERGANSERS were found,
and 7 HOODED MERGANSERS were seen below the Keystone Diversion Dam in the
North Platte River. At Lake McConaughy on the 12th, a BARN OWL was seen
at Spillway Bay. On the 15th in Ogallala, a MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen
flying over Boot Hill Cemetery.

In Sheridan County on the 15th, 3 BLACK-NECKED STILTS were seen at
Lakeside, and a COMMON TERN was seen at Willy Lake near Bingham.

In Scotts Bluff County on the 15th, 5 CINNAMON TEAL, 2 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen at Kiowa WMA. On the 14th,
WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS, VIOLET GREEN SWALLOWS and 2 ROCK WRENS were found at
Scottsbluff National Monument. In Morrill County on the 14th, 3 WILSON'S
SNIPES were displaying at Facus Springs WMA.

In Sioux County on the 15th, 5 CORDILLERAN FLYCATCHERS and a MACGILLIVRAY'S
WARBLER were found in Monroe Canyon.

On the 14th in Garden County, a pair of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS was seen at
the entrance to Windlass Hill.
