Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, July 4, 2003.
In eastern Nebraska in Sarpy County on June 28th in Bellevue, a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 3 NORTHERN PARULAS and 3 LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES were
found in Fontenelle Forest. On the 1st, a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was heard
singing at the Great Marsh in Fontenelle Forest.
In Polk County on the 29th, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were found on the
south side of Stromsburg.
In Seward County on the 29th, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in Seward.
In the Eastern Rainwater Basin on the 28th the following species were
seen: 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS, a GREAT EGRET, 9 CATTLE EGRETS, an adult
LITTLE BLUE HERON, a juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a WHITE-FACED
IBIS, a family of 4 SANDHILL CRANES, 8 HOODED MERGANSERS, a SWAINSON'S
HAWK, an AMERICAN AVOCET, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 19 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and 2
BLACK TERNS.
In western Nebraska in Garden County on the 28th the following species
were seen at Crescent Lake NWR: BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, WHITE-FACED
IBIS, SORA, WILLET, LONG-BILLED CURLEW, LEAST SANDPIPER, FORSTER'S TERN,
BLACK TERN, BURROWING OWL, LARK BUNTING, BLUE GROSBEAK and BULLOCK'S
ORIOLE. A EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was seen walking in a driveway in
Oshkosh on the 28th, and 2 more were seen north of Oshkosh.
