Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Friday, July 18, 2003.

In eastern Nebraska in Knox County on the 12th, 2 BELL'S VIREOS and a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT were seen at Niobrara State Park. In Cedar County
on the 15th, 2 adult and 3 young GRAY PARTRIDGES were found 3 miles west of Laurel.

In Dixon County on the 12th, a SCARLET TANAGER was spotted in Ponca State Park.

In Sarpy County in Bellevue on the 18th, a CAROLINA WREN, a PROTHONOTARY
WARBLER and a SCARLET TANAGER were found in Fontenelle Forest on South
Stream Trail in the area by the bridge.

In the eastern Rainwater Basin on the 12th the following species were
found: 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS, a juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 14
CATTLE EGRETS, 14 GREAT EGRETS, a HOODED MERGANSER, 1,012 KILLDEER, an
AMERICAN AVOCET, 24 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 384 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 62
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 28 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 8 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS,
26 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 5 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 31 STILT SANDPIPERS, 2
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 8 WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 21 BLACK TERNS.

In western Nebraska on the 15th in Lincoln County, a WHITE-WINGED DOVE and
4 pairs of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were found in North Platte in Cody
Park. On the 17th, a VIRGINIA RAIL was seen northwest of Brady at Pawnee Slough.

In Scotts Bluff County on the 15th, a GREAT EGRET and a BLACK-NECKED STILT
were found at Kiowa WMA. Also on the 15th, 2 adult and 5 juvenile
BURROWING OWLS were seen on the west side of Kiowa.

In central Nebraska in Franklin County on the 12th, a NORTHERN
MOCKINGBIRD was seen 2.5 miles northeast of Limestone Bluffs WMA.
