Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha, for Tuesday, July 29, 2003.

In central Nebraska in Phelps County on the 27th, a TRI-COLORED HERON and
2 adult and 2 young BLACK-NECKED STILTS were found at Funk Lagoon. The
TRI-COLORED HERON was seen briefly before it flew and was not found
again. Other birds seen at Funk were 5 GREAT EGRETS, 25 CATTLE EGRETS, 8
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 8 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 11
LEAST SANDPIPERS, 7 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 3 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS and 5 MARSH WRENS.

In eastern Nebraska in Washington County on the 26th, 5 WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS, 3 BELL'S VIREOS and 7 SEDGE WRENS were seen at or around
Nathan's Lake. On the 26th at Neale Woods, a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER and
a SCARLET TANAGER were found on the Krimlofski tract.

In northwestern York County on the 27th the following species were found:
2 CATTLE EGRETS, 11 GREAT EGRETS, 7 SORAS, 15 species of shorebirds
including 5 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, an AMERICAN AVOCET, 98 UPLAND
SANDPIPERS, 232 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 172 STILT SANDPIPERS, 17
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, 1 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and 10 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

In Platte County on the 27th at Lake North/Babcock 4 GREAT EGRETS, 2
SNOWY EGRETS, an AMERICAN AVOCET, 2 SANDERLINGS, 2 LEAST TERNS and 6
FORSTER'S TERNS were found.

In western Nebraska on the 27th in Scotts Bluff County, 12 BURROWING
OWLS, 2 SAY'S PHOEBES and 4 BLUE GROSBEAKS were found at Buffalo Creek
Wildlife Refuge. Also on the 27th, 4 RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS and a
BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD visited a feeder in Mitchell.
